Description
Sama Kota Doria Saree
Soft as sky, light as thought — a drape that feels like stillness.
The Sama Kota Doria Saree is a hand-dyed piece crafted in the traditional Kota Doria weave, known for its sheer, airy texture and signature square-check pattern formed by the interlacing of cotton and silk threads. This saree is panelled in delicate, intricate lace and finished with block-printed cotton cambric piping along the edges, adding a hand-crafted, artisanal detail to the drape. At 5.50 metres in length, it offers ample fabric for a range of draping styles, and comes in a free size to suit most body types.
About the Kota Doria Weave
Kota Doria is a centuries-old handwoven fabric that originated in Kota, Rajasthan, prized for its lightweight, translucent quality and distinctive square (khat) weave pattern. Traditionally woven on pit looms using fine cotton and silk yarns, the fabric is breathable and holds its structure without feeling stiff, making it a popular choice for warm climates and long wear. Its sheer texture allows Kota Doria sarees to be layered thoughtfully with a well-fitted blouse and petticoat, since the fabric itself is translucent.
Styling the Sama Kota Doria Saree
The lace panelling and block-printed piping on this saree lend it a soft, romantic character, making it well suited to daytime weddings, festive gatherings, and summer functions. It pairs naturally with a solid-coloured or lightly embroidered blouse to let the lacework stand out, and works well with minimal, understated jewellery given the saree's delicate detailing. Because of its sheer nature, a contrast or nude-toned petticoat is recommended to maintain a clean, elegant silhouette.
Care
As with most Kota Doria and lace-detailed fabrics, dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the weave's structure and the integrity of the lace panelling and block print over time.
